Confession Time: 5 Real-Talk Lessons from a Mindset Coach Who’s Still Figuring It Out

I Definitely Don’t Have It All Figured Out (And I Don’t Think That’s a Bad Thing).

When I decided to start this adventure into coaching, I thought I had to look polished and perfect. Always calm, always wise, always the walking embodiment of mindfulness.

Truth? I’m still figuring it out. And honestly, that might be the best thing about me.

Because the truth is… nobody ever “arrives.” Mindset work isn’t a final destination; it’s a practice. One you’ll screw up, restart, laugh, and do again. Each time, you grow a little more.

So, in the spirit of keeping it real, here are five lessons I’ve learned—and keep relearning.

Lesson 1: I Still Get Stuck in Negative Loops

Even though I teach mindset, I still catch myself spiraling. The difference is, I notice it faster now. That’s what led me to coaching in the first place. I wanted to share how powerful it is to recognize the spiral and stop it sooner. It can literally change your life.

My brain voice is still a loud and opinionated asshole. I just don’t let it run the show for long.

It’s all about progress. Because little steps add up to big changes.

Lesson 2: I Don’t Always Take My Own Advice Right Away

Sometimes I react first and coach myself later. I’ll have a full “WTF” moment before remembering, Oh yeah, I literally teach people how to handle this.

That doesn’t make me an imposter or hypocrite. It makes me human. It makes me real. I have the same struggles; I’ve just committed to continually working on being a better human.

My goal is to be a little better today than I was yesterday. Does that always happen? Nope. (See: human.) But I don’t let it hold me down. I pause, assess why, and then get back to trying again.

Lesson 3: I Doubt Myself Too

Imposter syndrome? Abso-freaking-lutely.

Every time I write a post or launch something new, that little voice whispers,

“Who do you think you are?”

Here’s what’s changed: I answer back.

“I’m someone doing the work out loud.”

Does that fix it instantly? Nope. But repeating it helps quiet the self-shit-talk long enough for me to keep moving.

Lately I’ve added another line:

“It’s not about me. It’s about the people I’m here to help.”

That’s where my core value of compassion kicks in. I have things to share that can change lives. Why wouldn’t I share them?

Lesson 4: I Swear and Use Humor

Humor with a side of swearing is how I process life. It’s how I connect, breathe, and keep things real. Some people might not dig it, and that’s okay. There are plenty of other coaches out there.

Mindset doesn’t have to be sterile or spiritual. It can be funny as hell and still deeply meaningful.

True story: sometimes my meditation word is a four-letter one. Repeating “F*CK OFF” to the thoughts that hold me down is oddly grounding. It brings me back to the moment and makes me laugh.

Lesson 5: I’m Not Woo-Woo (But I Respect What Works)

Crystals and manifesting aren’t my thing, but I love that they work for others. That’s the beauty of this space… different approaches, same goal.

You just need the coach who speaks your language.

I’m more of a “notice your thoughts, change your habits, add a dash of sarcasm” kind of coach.

Another core value of mine is authenticity. This is where I live it. Being true to myself instead of pretending to be someone I don’t fully believe in.

Book Bite: A Thought from Michael Gervais

“The first rule of mastery is: Don’t be ruled by fear.”
— Michael Gervais, The First Rule of Mastery

In his book, Gervais talks about how real mastery isn’t about perfection. It’s about freedom from the fear of what others think. That hits home for me every time.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to make progress. You just need the courage to show up, notice what’s happening, and try again tomorrow.

Final Thoughts

Perfection isn’t the goal. Progress is.

If you’re looking for a “perfect” coach, sorry… I’m not it. If someone tells you they can hand you perfection, they’re lying.

If you’ve ever thought you had to “fix yourself” before starting mindset work, you don’t. Welcome to the messy middle, where growth actually happens.
